Women in the Church EPS 32: Dr. Diane Langberg on abuse of power, spiritual abuse, pastors who heal and signs of abuse

Dr. Diane Langberg is globally recognized for her 47 years of clinical work with trauma victims. She has trained caregivers on six continents in responding to trauma and to the abuse of power. She also directs her own counseling practice in Jenkintown, PA, Diane Langberg, Ph.D. & Associates, which includes seventeen therapists with multiple specialties. Dr. Langberg’s newest book is Redeeming Power: Understanding Authority and Abuse in the Church. Other books include Counseling Survivors of Sexual Abuse, On the Threshold of Hope (with accompanying workbook), In Our Lives First: Meditations for Counselors and Suffering the Heart of God: How Trauma Destroys and Christ Restores.

Dr. Langberg is the recipient of the Distinguished Alumna Achievements from Taylor University., the American Association of Christian Counselors Caregiver Award, The Distinguished President’s award, and the Philadelphia Council of Clergy’s Christian Service Award.

She is married and has two sons and four grandchildren.

Dr. Langberg cofounded the Global Trauma Recovery Institute at Missio Seminary in Philadelphia.


She is also on the board of GRACE, Godly Response to Abuse in a Christian Environment, founded by Boz Tchividjian.

Lori is passionate about making a difference in the world and coaching others to make a difference with their own gifts and talents.

She worked in Indonesian tsunami relief in 2004, and learned that making a difference means listening, empathizing and collaborating. She believes our stories are powerful to both help us heal from trauma and bring significant change in our societies around the globe.

Lori Adams-Brown is a Life and Executive Coach in the Silicon Valley. She led as a City Team Leader in Singapore for 10 years, and spent the previous 10 years as a Team Strategy Leader in Indonesia. She worked as Associate Campus Pastor at Echo.church and as Development Director of Echo Compassion in the Bay Area from 2019-2021. Lori speaks 6 languages. She holds an M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, and has B.A. in Sociology and Spanish from Samford University. She grew up in Valencia, Venezuela where she learned to love city life, island life and merengue and salsa music. Her happy places are sipping a flat white coffee while having a deep conversation and enjoying either a beach or mountain vacation with the love of her life, Jason, their 3 urbanite TCK kids.
